Global thinking, interdisciplinary research: the spirit of Leibniz! Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) stands for open-mindedness and international orientation. With approximately 30,000 students, LUH is the second largest university in Lower Saxony and offers a comprehensive range of degree programmes in various fields including natural sciences and engineering, humanities, social sciences and teacher training, as well as economics and law. Interdisciplinary and international key research areas in biomedicine, production engineering, quantum optics, gravitational physics, optical technologies and interdisciplinary studies of science are constantly expanded. In the Excellence Strategy of the federal and state governments LUH is represented with two independent Clusters of Excellence and one cluster as a co-applicant.

Center for Economic Policy Studies of the Institute of Economic Policy

The Center for Economic Policy Studies (CWS) of the Institute of Economic Policy at Leibniz University Hannover conducts mainly externally funded project research on current issues in economics and economic policy. It cooperates closely with other research and consulting institutes (such as DIW Berlin, ZEW Mannheim, DZHW Hannover, SOFI Göttingen, Fraunhofer ISI Karlsruhe, ifo Munich, idea Brussels) to complement its own profile in a task-specific manner. The CWS has regionally, nationally and internationally recognised expertise in the development of indicator systems in innovation and structural research, in the preparation of sector studies, especially for cross-sectional sectors that are not available in official statistics (e.g. environmental and climate protection industry, information and media industry, key technologies: key enabling technologies) as well as in regional economic impact research combining primary data and input-output analyses.

Institute for Environmental Economics and World Trade

The Institute for Environmental Economics and World Trade (IUW) is part of the Faculty of Economics and Management at Leibniz University Hannover. International topics of development, environment and trade form the research focus. It deals with the effects of climate change, energy and water management, competitiveness, digitalization and migration. In addition, the Institute focuses on impact assessments on sustainability, value chain analyses in the agro-food sector, risk assessments to shocks, as well as measurements of food security and poverty. Finally, importance is attached to agricultural, trade, climate and land use policies. The geographic focus of the research is in Southeast Asia and in Sub-Saharan Africa. The IUW cooperates with numerous research institutes in Germany and abroad (Institute for Development and Agricultural Economics (IFGB), Center for Development Research (ZEF), German Development Institute (DIE), European Development Research Network (EUDN), United Nations University, World Agroforestry (ICRAF) and WorldFish.
