The Team

„Fair, sustainable, correct!“

Hey! In the following, we will present our team for the Young Economic Summit 2018! We are from the Elsa-Brändström-Gymnasium in Oberhausen (NRW), which is one of the best 15 schools in the German school price 2013. 2002 we were labelled as an environmental school, as well as in 2012 as a future school!

Hello, my name is Maren I am 16 years old. I am in the 10th grade at Elsa-Brändström Gymnasium. I spend my free time acting in plays in our school drama club, as well as taking part in a social project for people in Lipovo, Romania called “Pupils for the poor”. I wanted to take part in the ‘YES!’ project because I think that it is important to engage in politics, even as a teenager and feel that ‘YES!’ is a good opportunity to do this. I also think that the negative effects of meat consumption pose a global challenge and that we must come up with creative solutions. As a team leader, my planning and organisational skills will be essential if we are to complete a successful project.

Hi, my name is Sonja. I am 18 years old, and I am currently in the 12th grade at Elsa-Brändström-Gymnasium. Aside from painting and sports, I regularly spend my free time having lengthy and interesting conversations with my sister. Recently we have been discussing various issues in politics, and in doing so, we came across the ‘YES!’ project. I have chosen to participate in this project because I believe it offers a great opportunity to engage in politics and to have a voice, especially at a young age.

Hi, I am Melanie, 16 years old and in the 10th grade at Elsa-Brändström-Gymnasium. In my free time I enjoy drawing, ballet and often go roller-skating or ice-skating. I also spend time talking to my family about nutrition and healthy diets – which do not always include eating meat. I am participating in the ‘YES!’ project because I want to have an impact on politics in Germany and explore the world outside of school. I believe that my own social consciousness will be a useful attribute to help my team in this project.

Hi, I am Janek, I am 16 years old and study at Elsa-Brändström-Gymnasium. My hobbies include taking part in live action role-playing games, Iaido and dancing but I also like skating and free running. In my opinion, it is crucial that the youth of today involve themselves in the political and social matters. My motivation to participate in the ‘YES!’ project comes from my wish to enact change in this world and to take part in debates normally reserved for adults. I am a good researcher, and I have already helped in several similar projects. I enjoy the scientific process and exchanging ideas with different people, both supporters and critics. With this project, I want to improve my English skills and gain experience which I can use in my future career.

Hi, I’m Wiktoria, a 17-year-old pupil from Elsa-Brändström-Gymnasium. I enjoy reading novels and hanging out with my friends in my free time. I am also extremely interested in politics. I am participating in the ‘YES!’ project because I like the idea that the voice of the younger generation can finally be heard. I’d like to make a difference, and I think this project is a very good opportunity for me to do this.

Hi, I’m Laura. I’m 17 years old and a pupil at Elsa-Brändström Gymnasium in Oberhausen. I love to hang out with my friends and go to the gym. Fitness is a big part of my life, and this includes thinking about what I eat. After an exchange year in the USA, my whole perspective on meat consumption changed. Now I am participating in the ‘YES!’ project because I want to change things.

And last but not least, these are our mentors. On the left you can see Alex, he is from England and currently working at our school. In our project, he helps us to improve our English skills as well as giving feedback to our ideas. Next to him, there is Mr Teichert, who is our teacher in politics and maths. He helps us to organise the project and gives us his opinion on our solutions.
